Eight Below
My niece & I went to see "Eight Below" this afternoon & it was AWESOME! I loved it! She did too! She fell in love with "Max" :-)
I do agree he has awesome eyes. but truth be told, even though I loved all the dogs, I was drooling over Paul Walker & Bruce Greenwood from Racing Stripes a bit more. And a man who loves animals that just gets extra points! ;-) I will forewarn you...there is a nasty Leopard Seal in there! Man, is it fierce...looks like some dinosaur face! Check out the other wildlife there!
I went on the movie website to let me niece play & learn more & man did I learn a great deal! The movie is inspired by the 1957 Japanese Antartica Expedition. 6 of the 8 dogs survived 6 MONTHS on their own! AMAZING! Antartica holds over 10% of the earth's land area & is twice the size of Australia! Over the winter when the icebergs break off & the ocean freezes the size doubles! During the winter it is dark 24 hours a day & gets to -80 to -90 degrees Celsius! BRRRRR! Wait, dang I am hearing my grammar school teacher ghosts haunting me that I would one day need to know how to convert to Celsius! Why do we have 2 systems...Geez! Anyone remember how to do this & what this would be?
Ok, now December/January is their summer and the temperature will rise to -35 Celsius...somehow this still does not sound too warm to me! HA! Now they get 20 hours of light a day! Man would that be cool! Now this is real interesting. It is so cold there because 80% of the incoming radiation from the sun is reflected back into space by the ice & snow and the other 20% is absorbed by the atmosphere or reflected by the clouds. That blows my mind! This also blows my mind...it is the driest continent! Odd to me? They get very little snow! The absolute humidity is drier thanthe Sahara Desert!
They also said one area called the Dry Valleys has not had rain in thousands of years! Scientist go down their to study the Ecosystem & find Meteorites since there are more there than anywhere else! NASA goes there to study the area since it resembles MARS so much. Fascinating! I love learning new things! I hope you go see it! Let me know what you think! Wow...look at this link on taking trips there! Now wait...this site says summers can get as high as 40 degrees F! Heck, that is what I have now...it sounds not too bad. Now would you take a trip there?

Wise Old Men!
Ok everyone, I want you to imagine a small town beauty shop. I'm in there getting my hair trimmed and highlighted. My hair is probably the longest it has been since I was a little girl, so I made sure she just evened it out.
About 5 minutes after a she starts on my hair the first older gentleman comes in. He wants his hair buzzed off. The girls says, "All of it?" He says nothing on the sides & just buzz on the top. She says, "Are you sure?" He says, "Not much there anyway might as well" Actually he did have a fair amount. He says he won't have to come so often then. HA! I suppose that is a way to save some money. He so cute.
Then after he leaves another gentleman comes in. White hair with beard & mustache. Very distinquished gentleman. He says he wants it trimmed on the side with top feathered more. Says he knows he has a bald spot & it will show more but he doesn't care. He says if you do that, my wife will be happy & then I'll be happy. Well that got the 3 of us in there. We smiled & laughed & commented how nice that was of him to please her. He says, "Well ya but then again its my 3rd wife!" HA! We were all laughing so loud. Then he says, "Actually, I think I'm still in training!" Ha! We could not stop laughing but it was because he was sooooo adorable! He was moving to Southern New Mexico soon and I just loved talking with him. I think the younger guys need to hang out with the older men & learn some things! :-)
Thought for Today
Thought for today....
I just read this & thought it was great to think about & try to do today!
"Are you living in a way today which inspires REJOICING?"
Lets try & see what happens! Especially since it is suppose to be 50 degrees by me today! Ha!

True Love!
Wow! I just had to share this with you...
I came across this website with Pictures of the Year & found this one & if it is not the perfect image of TRUE LOVE I don't know what is! This is EXACTLY what I would do! There are several on this site for Lt. Cathey....
"The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. "I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it," she said. "I think that's what he would have wanted."
The plane one is really amazing also! It is Lt. Cathey also! I would have wrote a message of "Thank You" and shown it out the window to the family!
I placed them in here this way so you can click to view larger! I just wanted to take a few to show you how great this website is. I will tell you though, be careful with February 21 Newspaper spot News pictures...quite horrific photos & very intrusive! I'm lucky I can sleep tonight. I didn't even look at anymore after the one that had me quickly look away. Explore the others on the website though...really cool!
The Poor Guys!
Sometimes you just gotta feel sorry for the guys....
I wanted a haircut and phoned a salon early for an appointment with a highly recommended stylist. I was told customers were taken on a walk-in basis only. On Saturday I got there by 9 a.m., only to learn that it was that hairdresser's day off. I drove to another salon, but it was booked solid. Still another had no openings. The situation seemed hopeless, so I went home. My husband greeted me at the door. "That was fast," he said cheerfully. "Your hair looks great!"

Angel Braclets
I thought these Angel Braclets were cute & I thought I'd share them with you!
Maybe one of my family members will get me one for my b-day...yep creeping up! :-)
Wildcam...
Ok, what were you thinking? ;-)
Take a look at this link! It is really cool!
National Geographic: WildCam Africa
'"One man's passion to protect Botswana's wildlife and give them room to run free in expanded territory has led to a success story at Mashatu Game Reserve." In 1985 Pete Le Roux carved Pete’s Pond out of an old irrigation system. The area is now teeming with animals – impalas, lions, tigers, elephants - to name just a few. Thanks to National Geographic, you can now visit Pete's Pond. Unfortunately, the live webcam has been discontinued but there are videos taken in the area. The Animal Gallery has photos of the individual as well as an audio clip giving the Botswanina Setswana name of the animal and information on the species. National Geographic has done an excellent job taking African wildlife public!'

Reflecting on the Past Year!
Wow! Has it been a year already! Hard to believe but it was Feb 22, 2005 I began my journal! Where does the time go? You just blink!
When I think back to when I started & the first entries I see the baby steps I took. At that time I started my journal because I was going through a rough time. Besides getting over my foot surgery, I had 3 people pass away in a matter of 3 weeks. They were special people to me and adding to this was my 40th birthday! In addition, my cousin, who I remember being born, was now married having having her own baby when I had not done either yet. Did I just say "yet" hmmm...that is good! :-)
Journaling allowed me to think & clean things up in the thought processes. It allowed me to gain new perspectives & take those lemons & make lemonade.
Through this process I was able to do some cultivating & allow myself to grow more.
Of course, between the foot limitations & journaling it didn't hurt that I was not out shopping instead! HA! Save a bit of moola! HA!
I loved being in an environment where I could feel relaxed & have an avenue to reflect & share myself with others in creative ways.
I was able to meet some lovely people, who helped provide a different perspective. Sometimes they made me laugh & have fun, other times I may have disagreed.
Thank you all for the love you have shown me. For allowing me to feel accepted and "at home" to be myself with all of you. I can't wait to see what the next year will bring.

Something New
Did anyone see "Something New"? I went this past weekend & LOVED it! Ok, a bit choppy on some camera work but maybe it is just not my style. I loved the story line & how it was quite deep at many levels. It is interesting to see some reversal of the roles & how people can always point the finger at others but not look at themselves at times. I love how they explored the influences in attitudes from friends & family.
It was quite interesting when they were talking about how 40%+ of African American women who are educated beyond college are single. I remember a friend telling me the more degrees you get the less your chances are of finding a guy. It is just sad to me. Such lost opportunities! But it is true. I can't tell you how many times guys stop talking to me when they find out what I do. I don't even ask them anymore what they do because I know they will then ask me. My oldest brother & a friend of mine saw it actually happen a few years ago. Talking to this guy for like over an hour & then he asked. "ohhhh" turns around & watches the tv the rest of the night. HA! Sometimes I do work a bit harder & try to get them to realize it doesn't have to be a problem but other times I'm like, if you are that insecure in yourself then you are not the right guy for me. I'm not going to be fighting with that insecurity all the time. "I'm just a...(insert occupation)" is just pathetic to me. Be proud of what you do and show how I would be lucky to be with you.
And the issue of working even harder is unfortunately so true...in general for women & then more so for minorities. Sad world sometimes. It can also be used as a crutch though for some or they allow others to do this judgement & that is just pathetic!!! Just reinforcing that belief!
I think a great deal of me loving this movie was Simon Baker! YUM! Talk about Mr. McDreamy or is it McSteamy now after Sun! HA! Wow! There were some of us actually talking during the movie at some of the parts...go figure... & it got to a point & I was like "Ok, I'm just going to pre-order my DVD now!" HA! I'm thinking it may have also just been the character he was playing. It really appealed to my spirit. I LOVE working in the garden & with dirt...no cracks on that! I can't even use gloves usually. I have to get my hands in the dirt like he did. Oh & the hike he took her on! I absolutely loved it! I love hiking in the woods & seeing the wildlife & waterfalls. Ok, it doesn't hurt that he is quite charming & sexy but... ;-) He brings life to her spirit and that is what it is all about! When you can make each others spirit grow to more than you can be alone. Ok, painting my toenails doesn't hurt either! Ha! I love that he also wants her to be real...herself & loves who she is down deep even with her flaws. He looks beyond them & knows who she can be & frees her to feel comfortable to be that person. He knows it can come out. He doesn't want her to be something she isn't, like so many others in her life want her to be. And the dog...well that is certainly a plus! :-) Yep, I'll be getting that DVD that is for sure. I think I'll have to go see it again! :-)
If you see it let me know what you think!
Sexy Firemen!
Did you all see on AOL the sexiest job is a Firemen??? ;-) Hee, Hee! What is it about Firemen? And those mustaches? I know not all have them but many do & they are just ooolala! :-)
Police Officers were a bit down at #6! Awww! The slide show on the link has some quotes...seems the firemen getting dirty makes a difference...maybe the police officers should try to get a bit dirty! HA! .
I'm sure it doesn't help that officers are out there catching you getting in major trouble and firemen really don't have to do that. Maybe it is also a Freudian thing with the piece of equipment firemen use? Ha!
It says that Veterarians are not so sexy anymore. I wonder why? I mean all that love for pets. Then again their say teachers are not so sexy anymore...HEY!!! What do they know! ;-) I dare them to say that to my face! Ha!
So what job do you think is the sexiest?
I Just Need To Vent...Sorry!
Ok, I'll warn you all now...this is a venting post! If you don't want to read no problem! No, I'm not venting about AOL or the govt but doctors! They are just driving me nuts lately. I know, I know, some very awesome ones out there, but sometimes you just want to tell them off. I think I just may start to do that.
Why am I upset, well you probably know if you have been reading my postings I went through 6 doctors before they found out what was wrong with my foot. Turned out I had to have surgery a year ago last Sept. Since none of the previous doctors did their job correctlym I lost 92% of my muscle & had nerve damage. Can't tell me somewhere in the previous 3 1/2 yrs someone couldn't have figured it out and prevented it from getting that bad!
Ok, so then in Oct a lovely gentleman decides he wants to turn right from a left hand lane like 1 car length away from the light! I did miss hitting him but had to do a great deal of bracing with the steering wheel as I stopped. Thumbs got hyperextended & now I find out that the left one needs surgery. Ok so that is just a few months after the injury & the ortho sent me to a hand specialist after 2 visits (month apart) so that is not as bad.
I tell the same ortho guy my shoulders were not as bad right after the near miss car accident, just the top of my upper arm hurted a bit, thought maybe the seatbelt. After Thanksgiving both were really bothering me. Now I went shopping the day after Thanksgiving & did have bags but nothing real heavy....see this is really why we need strong men! :-) They have been horrible ever since. I can't sleep on my shoulders and I wake up in pain & it takes me about 2 hrs after getting meds in me to feel better & get going. The doc thinks it is odd that both shoulders go at the same time & probably rotator cuffs going "with age". I just want to get him for that. PT is not working so he does send me for an MRI on the left one and some labs for arthritis etc but he acts like I'm just whining or thinks it is odd...you know that look or lack of seriouness listening to you etc.
Well, yesterday I did the MRI which is the one bothering me the most. Picked up the results...sure enough "Undersurface tear of the supraspinatus tendon and Type II acromion." Basically the muscle on the top of my shoulder is torn & I have an impingement of my shoulder with my rotator cuff. UGH!!!! I just want to scream! And this is what I can figure out myself. There is a bunch of other stuff that I can't quite understand. I can't wait to see him!
Yep, I've already done the googling to see what it says. All the symptoms I mentioned...Double Scream! Sometimes you just want to say, "I told you so!" I'm the person who whacks the corner of things & goes "ouch" (Ok, maybe something else!) and then I'm still running & doing. If it hurts bad enough that it stops me from what I want to do...especially having FUN... then man it is no dinky bruise or some typical stereotypic female whining thing!
Ok, am I done venting....I think so...but I reserve my right to add if need be! HA!
I loved the last comments on Boston Legal tonight:
Denny: My day is coming
Alan: It isn't for a long time yet & until then LIVE LARGE!
I had a lovely...ok maybe devilish...smile thinking about how true that should & could be! :-)
