Happy Birthday Pac-Man!

No way is Pac-Man 25 Years Old! I'm not that old! Ha! Man the memories that come to mind...well I hate to admit them but....at the Roller Rink! Well...that was the fun thing to do in the 70s! Besides one of my knees was already in trouble & I couldn't figure ice skate so the next best thing was roller skating. Unfortuantely, that does bring up the "big accident!" Ya...well long story short, private party for the graduates who were "regulars" there. I was knocked out for like 45 min & my lovely friends don't even get the owner! Cracked check & inner ear & well missed my all star softball game & couldn't do anything all summer...including BOYS! I mean what guy finds a girl with her eye swollen shut and bruised "HOT!" Ha! I spent the summer falling asleep to Harry Carey's voice! I try to blame my math problems (well beyond Stats & Advance Algebra) on this but I'm not quite sure if it is just do to this! :-)

I think I played Pac-Man & Space Invaders the most!

What was your favorite? Vote here!

You can take a look at Pac-Man World 3  to see how times have changed!

Don't you think they should have old games like this somewhere at work so you could just "chill" for a bit! I mean I know we play games on our computer but just a mini arcade like a lounge...what do you think? Have some tables with board games too! I bet it would do wonders for morale! Maybe more people would not be road raging going home etc! Maybe we should have some little coffee arcades. All the old games for adults...can get your coffee, read some, play games ETC! Oh & you have to make sure to bring back the old 70s music too! Someone wants to start it let me know! :-)

Who Says Playing Games is a Waste of Time?!

Take a look at this website on past games which professors at Cornell University's Carl A. Knoch library have designed. It has games as far as back as the 1800s & from many different cultures. They demonstrate how games are not only fun but teach us a great deal about social values & mores!

When is the last time you played a game? Try having a game night once a month! Maybe it is with the kids or invite a bunch of friend over. Maybe each month a different person's house. Everyone brings a dish to eat? With summer great time to grill out & play games outside. Nothing better than playing Hide & Seek with kids! Ha!

Everyone Can Make a Difference!

Yesterday I stopped into a resale shop I had never been to. Remember I needed clay pots? They had some in the window!  I started to talk to one of the employees. She informed me that they were a small non-for-profit shop taking in donations. They use the money to help young pregnant teens in the south1side of Chicago. I thought how lovely an idea this is. So many people get wrapped up with one side or the other of this issue politically they forget none of this is helping the situation. They waste so much time & energy arguing which could be used in much better ways.

They have been open since the fall & their next phase is to provide training in work-skills & computers for the teens. Of course this got a "Oh Really?!" from me! I can't think of anything better to do, than empower young people who do not feel they have or deserve the power which is available to all of us when we are born! And I for one do believe that every child born on this planet was put here by God & has a purpose & a reason for being here... but that may just be me?!

I spoke to the owner a few minutes later & we exchanged business cards! She stated they wanted to give these girls options they did not think they had & I'm all for that. In my previous entry on Amusement Parks I mentioned did my internship in the Human Resource Department. I was the head of a program which hired at risk teens. They didn't have criminal records or anything because that would be an issue in hiring them but they were at-risk to have this type of future. I had one 19 yr old female had no children, all others were under 16 & had at least 1, many 2 children already! The males lived in areas with gangs etc & for these teens they did not see the hope. They thought why should I work so hard...it won't matter. Everyday you prayed all of them would be on the bus. It was very gratifying to think you can make a difference in their lives. I wish I knew what happened to them, even just making a difference in one life is worth all the time & energy.

I did ask if it was affiliated with any particular religion. I'm spiritual but I'm not one to ram religion down people's throats & I would hope this idea of love & hope would be available for all. She told me anyone is welcome!

I wanted to post this wonderful place in hopes it may inspire someone to just try if you have an idea which you think may help and perhaps you might like to donate something to the cause or your time in training. Maybe it is a one time thing during the holidays or maybe more consistantly...whatever you can do! Perhaps we need a blog which just enters each day great services to people for awareness? Hmmm! :-)

The Perfect Man?!

When we were at the Madagascar tonight, they previewed "The Perfect Man" with Heather Locklear, Hillary Duff & Chris Noth...ladies you'll know him as "Mr. Big!" or perhaps you also watch him on Law & Order...just a lovely daydream! :-)

The movie looks really good! There are some interesting lines I thought I would share with you and see what others think & one of the songs is from a past movie? Can't remember...I  know they also previewed a new "Pride & Prejudice" and they are using the theme from Love Actually!

Hillary Duff's character asks Chris Noth's...

"What makes today's perfect man perfect?"

"He has to know what makes a woman tick."

Chris Noth says...

"I guess today’s perfect man can be anywhere in the world but he chooses to be with her because  life is better with her by his side."

And won't this be true for perfect woman also??? To help each other bring out the best in the other...to reach their potential. Too many bring out the worst in each other!

What do you ladies think makes a perfect man?

Hillary Duff's character to Heather Locklear's Character...

"I want a mom who sees what her daughters see in her and doesn't need a man to be those things."

Now this is an excellent point & in some ways contradicts the idea that you need someone to bring out your best I agree!

Hillary Duff & Heather Locklear...

"Why are you so desperate?"

"I don't want to wind up alone."

No the orchid idea Chris Noth mentions...they don't do that for me...but Peonies & Lilacs...ahhhh!

Chris Noth...

"I'm just looking for someone I can bring the best out in."

Ben Feldman (Hillary's interest)...

"Love is Freindship on Fire"

I like that!

Chris Noth...

"There is such a thing as 'Perfect' and it's out there."

Well what do you think?

"I Like to Move It, Move It"...Madagascar Movie!

My two nieces & I met my sister to see the "Madagascar" movie tonight (technically last night!)! It was hysterical! My youngest niece was on the edge of her seat laughing & singing "I Like to Move It, Move It" much to her older sister's delight (sarcasm here!) She was singing it all the way home & when we got to grandma & grandpa's! Go to the Video link on the top of the website & you can watch the clips which includes this song!

I love David Schwimmer as the Giraffe! Remember my Giraffe story in a previous journal entry? He was hysterical! And the King Lemur is AWESOME! They really didn't advertise it but I just read on the website the voice was by Sacha Baron Cohen, most would know him as Ali G...finally some "RESPECK" by playing the King Lemur! :-) The website says he gave the 2004 Harvard Commencement address! HA! I would have loved to hear that, especially in light of its president's recent troubles!

There are soooo many lines which can be used later! I love the Monkeys too! I love the one with the cans & smelling his own armpit! Ha!  It is more for adults again like Shrek etc as young kids may not get all the significance out of the songs like "Born Free", "Staying Alive", and the National Geographic Theme. There was one slam on the elderly I didn't like...not the drug thing in Canada something else but I can't remember right now.

My niece already asked for the Soundtrack (you can listen to tracks!) for her birthday which is 3 weeks away. I think the DVD will be on the Christmas List. I'm dancing in my chair right now to "I Like to Move It, Move It!" I'm thinking singing this song would be a great way to get kids "to move it, move it" when they don't want to! Ha! Then again they may sing it to their parents when they don't want to! Ha!

Are you Hungry Country?

Are you hungry Country?

"What's For Dinner?  Pineapple? Where is the ice cream?"

I love my new digital camera! Ha! I took this tonight! I was unpacking groceries & Country just decided to help himself! :-) That cat would eat everything! Now Dusty did eat refried beans once! Ha! When he was a kitty, my brother thought it was cat food in small dish & gave it to him & do you know he ate it! Ha! BTW this is the same brother who fed his fish milk when he was young because he thought they were thirsty! Ha!

Dusty loves chicken since he was a baby along with shrimp & tuna. The two of them are nutty...Dusty is suppose to have special "crunchy food' for his health & Country doesn't have to. Ya, you can probably guess...Dusty is always eating Country's & Country is eating Dusty's. They are just like kids always wanting what the other has! They are pretty finicky with the soft food too!

Yes...I did feed Country! :-)

Congress Slashing PBS & NPR!

I'm providing this from the site you can go to & email this message to your friends & family! Please sign the petition & forward to your friends! The link is below!

What are these congressmen in Washington thinking? What will kids be watching then? There is enough sex & violence on tv...why take the little bit safe for kids away? So then what will these kids be like later? And God knows when they are more delinquent our officers will not get more money from Congress to keep up! Ugh! Ok, fund violence & take peaceful, educational programming away...ya that makes a lot of sense. I say we find out who came up with this on the panel & how they all vote & then vote them out if they support this! Heck, I'm angry enough to run for office & I hate politics...this is exactly why! Who is wasting their time coming up with this & spending our tax dollars on this? Don't forget if they are in office for 2 terms they will get a lovely retirement for the rest of their lives for voting on this issue! UGH! This is like the judge in "Miracle on 34th Street!" Well they come up with "No Child Left Behind" and don't fund that...in fact, with the recent education cuts it just confirms we need to get rid of some of these goofy congressmen. Where is the younger generation? We need to make an effort to get into congress & make changes! I say we sick "Animal" (My favorite Muppet!) on them! And the older generation complain about the younger generation getting worse...well no wonder! Remember you are the ones who provide the example & make the decisions which affect who they become!
*************************************************************
"You know that email petition that keeps circulating about how Congress is
slashing funding for NPR and PBS? Well, now it's actually true. (Really.
Check the footnotes if you don't believe us.)

A House panel has voted to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS,
starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow," and other
commercial-free children's shows. If approved, this would be the most
severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull
the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.

Sign the petition telling Congress to save NPR and PBS:

http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting/?id=5663-4689900-TooE2NRuNGxbR6z1eB.n4A&t=3

If we can reach 250,000 signatures by the end of the week, we'll put
Congress on notice. After you sign the petition, please pass this
message along to any friends, neighbors or co-workers who count on NPR
and PBS.

The cuts would slash 25% of the federal funding this year -- $100
million -- and end funding altogether within two years [1].

In particular, the loss could kill beloved children's shows like "Sesame
Street," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Arthur" and "Postcards from
Buster." Rural stations and those serving low-income communities might
not survive. Other stations would have to increase corporate
sponsorships.

As the House and Senate consider this frightening effort to kill public
broadcasting, they need to hear from its owners -- you.
