Why is it "Intimidation"?

In the May/June edition of Breathe Magazine
http://www.breathemag.com/ Susan Sarandon is the cover story. Her interview is quite interesting!

They asked her if she worries about the consquences of being so outspoken in an industry that still often prefers women to look good and remain quiet?

Personally, I don't think it is just that industry!

She says "you have to be able to say "I did my best" and that being silent is being complicit!"

When asked if people are intimidated by the idea of being politically active she stated that Eve was the first women to think of herself and had the worst reputation of all. She stated "...from the beginning of time we've been fed this notion that if you have knowledge, and you speak out, you'll be ostracized. So it's a very hard thing to take on." She later states her motivation comes from knowing she is not necessarily in the  minority & that when she speaks up it empowers others.

I think this is why I love women like Katherine Hepburn, Maureen O'Hara, Sophia Lauren & Ann-Margaret. They are not afraid to speak their mind & yet still can be feminine. Interesting how they are all red-heads! Ha!

Amazing how SOME men can be viewed as "Confident" and a "Leader" but SOME view women who have the same skills as a "Bitch" or "Aggressive" and less of a women! Of course there are plenty who might qualify though...that goes for the men as well! :-)
